Bankokuden Dojo

Bugei  in  the  Barossa  Valley

Collett Shihan made enquiries about instructor accreditation. What he found was that the Australian Government, through the Australian Sports Commission/Sport Australia seems to have washed its hands of the NCAS or National Coaching Accreditation Scheme by pushing out the responsibility for the scheme to the so called NSO’s or National Sporting Organisations.

In Collett Shihan’s case this would be the Australian Jujitsu Federation, apart from the fact the Collett Shihan is a member of the Australian Jujutsu Association, he has no interest what so ever in joining the federation, for a whole range of reasons that are not worth canvasing here.

The other option was a course run by the Australian Karate Federation which in Collett Shihan’s view is too sports orientated and therefore of no interest, the Minami Bankokuden dojo is about bugei, not scoring points.

The few other “commercial” accreditation options didn’t suite either, so after discussing it with Professor Lea and Ceberano Hanshi, and with their approval he set about developing a course as a joint venture between the Kokusai Jujutsu Kenkyukai, the Sekai Shiko Kobujutsu Kenkyukai and the Kokusai Bugei Hozon-kai as a course that members of those organisations can undertake to develop or improve their skills as instructors.

The course targets individuals at the Nidan or 2nd degree black belt level as this is the level that typically new’ish black belts start moving into the instructor role.

The course is self-paced and completed externally, participants are required to complete quizzes, to prepare reports and plans and to execute video recorded training sessions covering course work.

The course is intended to give the participants a grounding in the information and methodologies that will guide them towards becoming excellent martial arts instructors.

The course has seven modules each with multiple units. The areas covered are as follows:
Module 1:    Member Welfare, Health and Safety.

Module 2:     Instructor Roles and Responsibilities.

     Module 3:     Dojo Planning.

     Module 4:     Exercise Physiology.

     Module 5:     Human Movement.

Module 6:     Channels, Vessels and Xuedao / Ketsudo.

Module 7:     Learning, Psychology and Teaching.

On successful competion of the course graduants will receive a Certificate of Accreditation similar to the one show at the top of this page and permission to use the joint venture's logo shown at the left on dojo materials, web sites and flyers and the like.

Feel free to contact us about the course.
